In the Wolf Among Us, you’ll learn quickly that choices need to be made on the fly. During the first conversation with Mr. Toad, a red bar will shrink under each choice. Select a choice, or you’ll have no response at all.
Like in The Walking Dead, the game changes depending on how you respond to situations. Being hard or soft on Mr. Toad will lead to future changes in how he deals with Bigby Wolf.
Get through the conversation, and head upstairs to deal with the disturbance. Bigby is the Sheriff of Fabletown, and he’s not about to let this fight continue.
In the hallway, grab the matchbook and check the phone. At the door, Bigby can choose to knock or kick the door in.
Inside, the Woodsman is threatening a woman – unsurprisingly, the Wolf and him have history. Threaten him, and he’ll remember, but no matter what you do, a fight will break out.
Tap the buttons as they appear. The faster you can dodge, the less likely you are to die. It’s as simple as that. Take the Woodsman down after he grabs for the axe, and finish the fight to speak with the woman.
No matter what you ask her, she won’t reveal much. Expect the same kind of response outside and later in the chapter – she refuses to answer any of Bigby’s questions.
The battle escalates again as the Woodsman and Wolf fly outside no matter what you choose to do.
A short conversation with Toad allows Wolf to be strict or kind, but the brutish Woodsman goes for Wolf. Pound [Q] on PC to avoid dying – and the lady will save you with an axe to his skull.
There are two major choices that follow, with a third smaller one. First, she’ll pound on the downed body of the Woodsman. Let her continue or stop her. Next, she’ll need a light – if you picked up the matchbox from the hall, you can give it to her now.
Last, Wolf will offer her payment. Give it to her, or don’t. She’ll remember your choice. With that, the first episode begins properly and the introduction plays out.
