The Xbox 360 Gets a New Chipset

Microsoft has put together a new chipset for the Xbox 360 that will drive down manufacturing costs and reduce the size and power consumption of the board in the system.

An International Business Times report says they’ve put together an IBM set that combines CPU, GPU, RAM and IO logic on a single 45nm chipset. Crazy.

This is sort of a weird announcement, because normally an advancement like this would be acoompanied by a new SKU, but apparently the new chipset is going to go straight into the existing slim model introduced at E3 last year. Strange, considering new SKUs are usually accompanied by a large sales windfall. But, hey, whatever. They can do what they want, man.
