While it hasn’t turned into an epidemic, many owners of the PC edition of Dishonored are experiencing a fatal crash error that renders the game unplayable. The issue affects people using an ATI graphics card, and involves suddenly ceasing to function, then displaying a cascading error stream before crashing and returning players to the desktop. Once it happens, it will not work again, which really, really sucks since the game isn’t freeware.
This is obviously a major pain in the ass (and once again, proof that developers really are playing favorites with Nvidia,) but Bethesda has suggested a fix that appears to work for most people who suffer the problem. This fix may not have universal applicability, but if you experience the error, try the following:
* Install the game on your C: drive.
* Check the game’s cache integrity.
* Revert to an earlier version of ATI’s Catalyst drivers.
If you’ve experienced this error, let us know in comments if this fix works. And in the meantime, the rest of you could consider customizing your Dishonored experience with our handy guide to .ini tweaks.
