[UPDATE]: Thief Reboot Trailer Leaked Ahead of Schedule
UPDATE: Square Enix went ahead and released the “official” version of the new Thief trailer (embedded below), along with a few details about the game.
Here’s what the press release says we received:
April 1, 2013 — Today, the shadows are lifting. Garrett, THE Master Thief is back with this announcement trailer for Eidos Montreal’s upcoming title: THIEF, in development for PC, PlayStation 4 and other next-generation consoles.
There is a rising tide of fear in The City. Hatred saturates every stone and whilst the rich prosper, the less fortunate face misery and repression. Ravaged with sickness and famine, they wait for something to change.
Into this shadowy world steps Garrett the Master Thief in a first-person adventure featuring intelligent design that allows players to take full control, with freedom to choose how they approach and overcome each challenge and forge their own path through the game.
A trailer of Thief has slipped out of the Eidos Montreal offices ahead of the game’s big reveal on April 2. An earlier trailer was released a few days ago, teasing Garrett and the game’s new engine.
The new trailer shows the city in which Thief takes place, and a number of Garrett’s unique abilities and assortment of gadgets which allow him to exercise his profession as a master thief. Preferring stealth and elusiveness to killing, Garrett spends much of his time hiding in the shadows and making great escapes instead of downing his pursuers. Keep in mind that the trailer’s entirely in CGI, and not what the game actually looks like—outside of the aesthetic, in any case.
Developed by the studio which made Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Thief is a reboot of the old Looking Glass series and is slated for a 2014 release on the PC and next-gen consoles including the PlayStation 4.
