THQ Announces Saints Row The Third: Enter The Dominatrix

In what will surely go down in history as the moment I finally decided life is, indeed, worth living after all, THQ announced yesterday that Saint’s Row: The Third is getting a serious injection of support from THQ with the creation of a true expansion pack – yes, not DLC, a stand alone expansion – that seems both ambitious, and entirely ridiculously silly. In the best possible way.

Saints Row The Third: Enter The Dominatrix will be a true expansion pack, available later this year for Xbox, Playstation and PC for $29.99. Enter The Dominatrix will be a standalone game that picks up where the end of Saint’s Row The Third ends, this time pitting the leader of the Saints against aliens bent on global domination. Yes, space aliens. “For centuries, alien warlord Zinyak has eyed Earth and its precious natural resources and females with a watchful eye,” the press release explains. “As he prepares an armada for invasion, he has only one worry: the Third Street Saints.”

Enter the Dominatrix has the leader of the Saints placed into a Matrix-style virtual reality, which, according to THQ, is mainly an excuse to give players the chance to use tons and tons of super powers. No details about the plot have been provided aside from this summary. By the end of SR3, you have either killed all of your enemies and established the Saints as a global brand/criminal super power, or you have literally declared the city of Steelport to be a sovereign city-state. Presumably, whichever choice you made will be irrelevant to the events of Dominatrix, though it would be cool if they actually write in two slightly different contexts.

I’ve enjoyed the hell out of the story-based DLC for SR3, and I have no doubt that Dominatrix will be more of what I love. What is particularly cool is the level of commitment THQ has given to the game. The game’s success has probably been a rare moment of success for the troubled company, so no doubt they want to milk it. I’m just happy to see them experimenting with what Rockstar tried with Episodes From Liberty City. DLC can often be great and all, but a return to classic-style expansion packs that enhance the overall play experience, without making you wonder if you’re just paying for something that should have been included, can only be good for gaming, and for gamers. By which I mean to say, buy this people. Reward THQ for taking this risk.

THE DOMINATRIX HAS YOU. THQ CONFIRMS DEVELOPMENT OF SAINTS ROW: THE THIRD – ENTER THE DOMINATRIX

All science, just a little fiction. Seriously.

AGOURA HILLS, CALIF. May 3, 2012 – The real world may be a lie… but this announcement isn’t. THQ Inc. (NASDAQ: THQI – News) and Volition, Inc.® are proud to announce the development of Saints Row®: The ThirdTM – Enter The Dominatrix™, the groundbreaking standalone expansion to Saints Row: The Third. No longer an April Fool’s dream, the outrageous game concept will be reality this fall. It’s really happening.
Slated for release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, for a suggested retail price of $29.99, Saints Row: The Third – Enter The Dominatrix takes the award-winning, over-the-top action of Saints Row: The Third and adds the most requested gameplay features from the Saints Row community: freaking super powers.

“Faster than a speeding cyber jetbike, more powerful than a roided-out Luchadore, able to leap flying aircraft carriers in a single bound… That’s the power you’ll find inside the Dominatrix. Use it for good. Use it for evil. Use it for whatever you want. As always in Saints Row, it’s up to you,” said Danny Bilson, Executive Vice President, Core Game Production, THQ Inc. “With a franchise with more than 11 million units shipped globally, it’s incredibly gratifying to have the flexibility to give Saints Row fans the features they want most.”

He later added, “Freaking super powers.”

About Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix
Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix picks up immediately following the events of Saints Row: The Third. For centuries, alien warlord Zinyak has eyed Earth and its precious natural resources and females with a watchful eye. As he prepares an armada for invasion, he has only one worry: the Third Street Saints.

Once a simple street gang from Stilwater, the Saints have evolved into a global empire, replete with bombastic TV advertising and tasteful consumer products, the kind of TV advertising and consumer products that would give any alien warlord pause. Clearly, the Saints are the biggest badasses on Earth.

Now, in order to prepare his forces for domination, Zinyak captures the leader of the Saints and imprisons him in an elaborate virtual reality simulation. This simulation program looks and feels like Steelport, but it is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. Here, you are a slave. Welcome… to the Dominatrix.
More details and a first look at Saints Row: The Third – Enter the Dominatrix will be available this summer.
