THQ Confirms Warhammer 40K: Space Marine Co-op
I think everyone here at GameFront is looking forward to THQ’s upcoming third-person action title Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Now, it looks like we’ll be able to play it together, as THQ has confirmed that they’ll be adding co-op play to the game shortly after launch.
ShackNews noticed a post on the game’s official forum from THQSledgehammer, the game’s Community Manager (since removed, but preserved through the magic of Google Cache) that gave the following facts about Space Marine’s co-op:
- Space Marine will have Co-Op added in 30 days give or take after launch. Why? We wanted to polish up the Co-Op aspect of Space Marine.
- The GameStop Co-Op call out was old information and we have a nice slate of info to cover all your Co-Op needs.
- Everyone who purchases Space Marine at retail (brand new) will get Co-Op for FREE. If you buy the game one year from now the Co-Op option will still be Free as long as the game is sealed brand new from retail.
Since the forum post was removed, THQ has confirmed to ShackNews that co-op is in fact a go, saying,
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will have co-op and we look forward to announcing more details later this month.
We’ll have to wait and see how accurate the timing of the co-op addition is. It’s a bit disappointing to THQ continue down the road of Online Pass-like features like this. Why not make co-op play a free add-on for all purchasers, or just delay the game a couple of weeks to put it in for retail? After all, it’s not as if we’re not already paying sixty damn dollars for the game.
We’ll keep an eye on it, and update you as soon as more info becomes available. As it stands, Space Marine is set to release on September 6 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
