THQ Unloads Its Wireless Division

THQ is no longer making its own low-end cellphone games. More shockingly, it only just now stopped doing that.

The company sold its mobile division, THQ Wireless, to 24MAS, a Sweden-headquartered mobile content and advertising distributor that has a network that spans more than 80 countries. THQ is still focusing on making Android and iPhone games like the iOS version of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, but it’ll be partnering with 24MAS for games on other carriers’ platforms.

The change is part of THQ’s restructuring of its business, and support for older model cellphones was apparently part of the weight that it needed to cut. Meanwhile, 24MAS says the addition of THQ’s wireless business and carrier operations will add value to its network. Sounds like everyone’s happy.
