TimeSplitters Rewind Gets Crytek’s Approval

Crytek has given its blessing to the developers at Cooking With Grenades to develop TimeSplitters Rewind, a game that draws from all three TimeSplitters titles, originally developed by Free Radical.

The game is described as a new experience that centers around multiplayer gameplay while drawing upon the original series’ Challenge mode. Powered by Crytek’s CryEngine 3, the game is being made by 25 fans who’ve committed themselves to developing the game for the PC for free. According to its developers, the game is being developed with support for online, LAN, and solo play against bots.

The studio was given permission by Crytek to use assets from the main TimeSplitters games, but declined to do so, preferring instead to develop the game entirely from scratch. The game will offer 300+ playable characters, dozens of weapons, and classic maps from the original titles to be close to the originals as much as possible.

The studio intends to release a demo by December this year, followed by a release of the actual game.

It’s just the multiplayer?! I thought it was going to be all three campaigns! Well…that would be a lot of work to be done for free, but screw it, Kickstart a Timesplitters HD collection!
