Titan Mode is Back with Carrier Assault in Battlefield 4
We’ve fired an AC-130-like barrage at DICE and EA for its many missteps with Battlefield 4. Now it’s time to give credit where it’s due, and pat DICE on the back for what sounds like the best addition to Battlefield in years: Carrier Assault mode.
It’s an homage to the fantastic Titan mode from Battlefield 2142 and it’s included in the upcoming Naval Assault DLC. In a new post on the Battlefield Blog, lead gameplay designer Gustav Halling explains how Carrier Assault is the spiritual successor to Titan:
“Battlefield 2142 and Titan mode veterans will feel right at home with Carrier Assault, with the unique focus of giving players several options to win the match – either through map control or close quarter fighting inside the enemy H,” Halling stated. “The differences in setting and time period do, however, make Carrier Assault a fresh experience, and we hope you will get the same thrill out of parachute-spawning down to a carrier as you did when blasting off in a rocket pod towards a Titan.”
Here’s how it will work: each round will be divided into two stages — map control and carrier attack. Two teams will fight to control points on the map which are tied to missile launchers. Control enough points and the launchers will fire on the enemy carrier. When the launchers do enough damage, the carrier hull will be breached and open to infantry attack. Destroy the two M-COMs within the carrier or bring its hull all the way down to 0% health, and your team will win.
Can’t wait for this one. Titan mode is one of the best things to ever happen to Battlefield, and it’s about time DICE brought it back. Naval Assault launches for premium members in late March.
