Titanfall Launch Boosts Xbox One Sales 96% in the UK

It’s the games, stupid.

James Carville’s famous quote about the impact of the economy on voters is also perfectly suited to the console wars. For evidence, look no further than Titanfall‘s launch in the UK.

According to latest GFK Chart-Track, the Xbox One saw a ridiculous 96% sales bump in the UK with Titanfall’s launch, and more than 70% of those consoles sold were the Titanfall bundle.

Titanfall also became the biggest launch game of 2014 thus far in the UK, more than doubling the sales of former top-spot holder FIFA 14.

The top five sellers in the UK for the week ending March 15 were:

1. Titanfall
2. Dark Souls 2
3. South Park: The Stick of Truth
4. The Lego Movie Video Game
5. Thief

It’s a boost Microsoft desperately needed after lagging far behind the more than 6 million PlayStation 4 sales Sony announced in early March. Microsoft has not provided Xbox One sales numbers since early January when it revealed more than 3 million consoles had been sold in 2013.

Surprise surprise, Xbox One only starts selling on release of the sort of bland, unoriginal gunporn that Xbox has become synonymous with. A short-term fix, though.
