Titanfall Matchmaking Changes Go Live for Selected Game Modes
Respawn has rolled out a number of changes to Titanfall’s matchmaking system.
The new tweaks were announced last week in a post on the game’s official site. Interestingly, the main focus of the changes is to lengthen the time it takes to get into a match. While that may sound like a bad idea at first, it’s actually a move designed to improve the quality of the matches you do get into.
According to that post, the move will, “Give us more time to build better teams and create closer games that are worth staying in for a longer period of time.”
It will also adjust for really skilled teams on the fly, even going so far as to remove them from your game and pit you against a more evenly matched opponent. “If one team is dominating, we will update the skill for all of the players and then find each team a better suited match for the next round,” says the blog post.
These changes have been available in a beta playlist since last week, but they are now live for public Attrition and Hardpoints modes. Respawn said in a post today that they will, “Continue updating matchmaking for the other modes.”
This is a good move by Respawn, as there’s nothing more frustrating than spending a night getting pummeled by a team that’s obviously more skilled than you are. If they can refine this to keep matches competitive, it should be a boon for both the game and its players. It would be even better if we could select servers for ourselves *cough* serverbrowser *cough*, but in lieu of that, this will have to suffice.
