Tomb Raider Rumored To Have Multiplayer
I can’t wait until the day when everything, no matter what it is or what it does, comes with multiplayer. New car? Multiplayer! Gift card at H&M? Now with Multiplayer! Basketball tickets! Multiplayer for everyone!
That’s a thing, right? It had better be, since every single game in the world – with a few notable exceptions – has decided that multiplayer is a feature as vital to the full functionality of a game as, I don’t know, 360 degree camera control. That’s why so many games have made sure to include multiplayer, and lucky for us, because every instance has been completely in keeping with the conventions of genre, has always improved games, and has never been created at the expense of core features players actually expected.
The latest to join the totally necessary and completely appropriate to the game multiplayer club? The upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. All Games Beta has shared what purports to be confirmation of multiplayer in the game, originally posted to a different site but since taken down. Text apparently taken from the special edition box features the following:
● A Turning Point: Experience Lara Croft’s intense origin story from a young woman to a hardened survivor.
● An All-New Raiding Experience: Explore a mysterious island filled with environmental puzzles, visceral combat, and ancient tombs to discover.
● Fight to Live: Salvage resources, gain experience, and upgrade Lara’s weapons to survive the island’s hostile inhabitants.
● Survive as a Team: Play a variety of multiplayer modes as Lara’s Shipmates or Yamatai’s Scavengers.
Chances are this turns out to be true. But do we care? I admit I don’t, for the same reason I couldn’t give a toss about Uncharted Multiplayer. That said, I also know a lot of people LOVE Uncharted multiplayer and that I’m in the grumpy minority. So you tell me, Game Fronters: is this a good sign, or a sign of broken things to come? Sound off in comments.
