UPDATE 07/11/12: Five new bonus mods added!

Although Dragon Age 2 is only two weeks old, the modding community has already pumped out enough mods for some fan favorites to emerge. Aesthetic mods, gameplay mods, and plain old “cheat” mods, here they are for your downloading pleasure:

1. Chargen Revamp

When creating a character in vanilla Dragon Age 2, you can either select the default model, lovingly crafted with personality and style, or you can look like crap. The customization options don’t allow you to create anything that looks even remotely close to the default model; so if you wanted, say, default Hawke with blue eyes and a shaved head, you’d have to settle for someone who looked like Dr. Evil.

Chargen Revamp allows you to customize default Hawke, an option that should have been included by the developers.

2. New Fair Skinned Isabela

If you prefer your pirate chicks to be the fair-skinned, indoorsy type rather than the swarthy, tanned variety, this mod is for you. It includes ten face variations to go with this fair-skinned Isabela, but no explanation as to how someone can sail the high seas under the sweltering sun and maintain the complexion of a basement-dwelling gamer. I guess a wizard did it.

3. Real Champion Armors

Ever wish you could use the weapons and armor seen in Varric’s initial exaggerated tale without having to wait for the end-game? This mod makes it possible. You will need to use the experience cheat to level up and gain the prerequisite stats, but you’ll be able to wear any of the three armors, regardless of your class.

4. Gibbed Dragon Age Save Generator

The Dragon Age: Origins saved game import feature is a neat, but if you’ve never played DA:O–or deleted your saved game–then it’s a neat feature that you’ll never get to use. Want to know how a DA:O background will change your DA2 experience? This mod allows you to create a fully customizable saved game without having to play 30+ hours of DAO.

5. Exaggerated Bethany

Keen observers of detail may have noticed that Bethany was far more buxom in Varric’s initial exaggerated tale than in the “real” story. This mod replaces Bethany’s normal body with Varric’s version, bumping her bosom size up to back pain-inducing levels.

6. Bidelle’s Cosmetics 2

This mod dramatically increases the vibrancy of the eyes of most characters in the game and adds a dozen eye shadow options for females, ranging from mundane black eyeliner to Blood Mage bleeding mascara, Cleopatra eyeliner, and full-face Geisha makeup.

7. No Restrictions DA2

Ever wonder why a warrior can’t use a bow? Seems fairly straightforward, doesn’t it? This mod removes all restrictions placed upon weapons and armor, be they attribute, class, or character restrictions. As a Two-Handed warrior, you may not find much use in a mage staff, but at least the option is there.

8. TrufflesDuval Texture Mod

Is Bioware’s 1-gigabyte high-resolution texture pack just not good enough for you? Or are you stuck with DirectX 9 and looking for a way to improve the game’s visuals? Mod-maker TrufflesDuval seeks to meet your needs with his texture pack. He’s presently working through the armor textures, but his current version has already enhanced the scenery.

9. AjuntaPall316s DA 2 Nudie Mods

The internet’s Rule 34 in action, this mod outfits the female champion with a see-through bra and underwear. It also makes the Desire Demon completely topless, rather than mostly topless, and includes an awkward topless Isabela–though topless may not be the right word. It seems more like her breasts have melted away the surrounding cloth, resulting in some bizarre x-ray voyeur bustier.

10. Unlock Companion Skill and Weapon Trees

Want a bow-wielding Isabela? Merrill with healing spells? Fenris with sword and shield? This mod unlocks all the possibilities by no longer forcing companions into the weapon roles that BioWare intended.

UPDATE 04/08/11: And here’s a bonus; five more top Dragon Age 2 mods:

New Sexy Merrill Armor

If you’re not one of those people who regard Merrill as jailbait, then you might be interested in this re-skin that replaces this elf’s chainmail with… nothing. Not a nude mod per se, this mod just makes Merrill’s armor a lot less realistic. Versions with and without tattoos and shorts are available, as well as different color schemes.

Evo_champs armor

The end-game Champion’s armor is by far the best look your character can sport, yet you spend a relatively short amount of time wearing the complete set. This mod gives you the full set of armor the moment you set foot in Kirkwall, but retains game balance by letting it level up in power along with you. Something about having a cake and eating it too comes to mind.

Yep, it’s basically a nude mod–a variety of revealing underwear options for female characters. You need to register for a free account at the Dragon Age Nexus to download it.

Isabela Pants and Shorts

What’s this? Do my eyes deceive me? A mod that actually addsclothing to female character? Sweet mother of mercy, there’s hope for humanity yet. I need to quote the mod author on this one:

I get it. Really I do. She’s a sexy saucy pirate wench. That doesn’t mean she needs to walk around flashing her thong at the whole world. Or maybe I just figured she was getting cold running around Darktown at night.

This mod does exactly what the name says–its gives Isabela pants.

New Sexy Busty Armor for Hawke

Aaaaaand we’re back. This mod outfits your female champion with what appears to be a re-skin of exaggerated Bethany’s body. The author did include a less busty version (pictured right), as well as versions with or sans tattoos.

Anthracite Robe

This mod for female characters only adds a complete armor set for rogues and mages — robe, hood, boots, and gloves. The armor’s stats improve as you level up, so you get to keep the look as long as you like.

A version of the armor is also available for Merrill and Bethany, though it is purely cosmetic for them.

Pineappletree s Vibrant Hair for DA2

Here’s a mod that replaces the standard hair texture in DA2, which is used for all player characters and NPCs. The new textures are double the resolution of the originals and are based on images of real hair.

Pineappletree s Vibrant Colors for DA2

Another mod be Pineappletree, this one is a collection of 46 new skin tones, 42 new eye colors and 48 new stubble & eyebrow colors for use in the DA2 character creator.

Dream of Antiva

This mod adds some fancy Antivan-style armor that improves as you level up, and is also available for some of your companion characters.

Here’s a mod that replaces the armor meshes for certain NPCs and player characters with unrealistically sexy variants and allows for a fair degree of customization.

I can save you the trouble and sum up most games like DA and Oblivion. Top mods are as follows

Dressing like a whore

So…that comment was really necessary, Aids? Unless we count differently, there were only 2 mods which fall into your list here.

On April 1, 2011 at 10:41 am

@Yoshimasa00 You just need to register on the nexus forum site to gain acess to all their modding sites.

On April 3, 2011 at 8:02 am

@ DaedalusV / Yoshimasa00

Might want to use a proxy for Nexus, there are some problems with security and you have to worry about the possibility of hackers getting your IP address, so it’s best you cover it with a fake IP or hid it entirely when your there.

It just shows what pathetic losers our earth is inhabited with when the top mods revolve around sexual deviancy. Bring on a meteor, the human race is the same substance as .

On April 7, 2011 at 12:57 am

BOOBIES, TA TA’S and FECAL MATTER! ha that guy has issues. and it a male majority playing these rpgs. The game itself is just a play of our fantasies. so what if we want woman worries with double d’s bouncing freely in the gorey sequences. Its my 60 dollars and my own personal immersion. ill do what i d@mn well please with my video game.

I’m a chick and I LOVE the sexy mods.
Bring on the boobies.

On May 18, 2011 at 7:00 am

Would have taken this article seriously, but they posted the “Make Isabela White so She’s Sexy!” mod as number 2. Seriously. That mod might as well be called, if you don’t like black chicks, here’s the mod for you. And no, Isabela is not “just tan,” she Rivainni and actually dark skinned.

On June 1, 2011 at 6:22 pm

Haha, yeah I gotta agree with you Amari. Was that mod necessary in the first place? Oh, and to everyone in’ ’bout the sex-themed mods: stop. You already know they’re gonna pop up and your dozen words of protest aren’t going to stop them. Just because they’re there doesn’t mean that every single person who plays the game downloads them. Anywho, other than the Isabela one, there were some pretty good ones here.

On July 13, 2011 at 2:46 am

@Amari> I too have to agree with you, i’m caucasian, and i don’t like the look of the Fair Skinned Isabella, there are enough of the white chicks running around in the rest of the game. i say well done to the programmers for having a romanceable character that isn’t the standard boring vanilla. pun intended.

On July 16, 2011 at 4:00 am

people actually make mods to this game? I dont see point, replayability is horribly low and wont improve by adding sexy lingerie and graphic improvements.
Its barely worth playing twice (20-30hours) with evil warrior, good mage or vice versa, I just dont see the point in playing again with new character looks.
I guess people do not actually play the game, they watch female characters nude and….do stuff to themselves…

On July 30, 2011 at 1:07 pm

I think the point to “white Isabella” mod is because, well, she WAS white in back in DA:O… And didn’t she have red hair? Took me a while to actually realise this was the same lady from The Pearl…

Don’t see why they didn’t just make her a new ‘sexy whore pirate’ character rather than trying to re-use Isabella with so many alterations you don’t recognise the reference to DA:O.

Still, she’s on my favourite characters list, especially now that I can give her some damned pants.

On August 11, 2011 at 9:16 am

@Richard- Yes, some people, in fact, a great many of those that played it, were actually able to enjoy this game…Imagine that, people having a different opinion than you.

I don’t get the Isabella one at all really. I think she’s beautiful the way she is. No use in trying to make her look like the old one either.

On August 24, 2011 at 4:56 pm

Why do gots think they can rip off my name. I don’t even care enough about modern RPGs to even comment on them.

On September 22, 2011 at 12:06 pm

What a reaction. The whole article seemed to be written with a somewhat sarcastic tone anyhow. If you want boobies in your game have them! If you don’t then leave em be. Mack was right, it’s your $60, do whatever you want. Just look at the oblivion modding community. There is no sex in that game but they made sure you could have it if you wanted and that’s just peachy. Have FUN with these things, they’re games…just chill. And for the light skinned Isabela…the writer didn’t say she’s superior to her original, it’s there for your preference. Now shut up and play the game.

On October 25, 2011 at 10:31 am

great modd…got the saved game one to work but when i tried to run the others i get sent to adobe? was expecting to get saved file then extract and run..any help apprecitated. tks

On November 27, 2011 at 2:11 pm

i downloaded the armor mod but cant get it to work can anyone help me?

On January 23, 2012 at 1:47 pm

It just sucks that a lot of these won’t work on the mac version of the game because of the lack of a tool box. Some of the texture mods like the character revamp will work, but anything dealing with armor or other things won’t work. It also seems as though the console won’t work on Mac OS either. So, although these mods are awesome (and they really are, I played on my roommate’s PC), if you don’t have a PC then you can’t enjoy them nearly as much.
inb4 get a PC

On February 26, 2012 at 3:42 am

Get a PC :)

On July 13, 2012 at 8:55 pm

The “aaand where back!” part kill me!, you are awesome, also the mods look good, at least the champion armor.

On December 25, 2012 at 6:23 pm

Most of these mods are for prepubescent teens that haven’t been laid yet. How about some mods that are actually useful, like Armor of the Black Fox, or Legacy Of Sundown for DA:O rather than boobs, sex, sex, boobs, sex, boobs, texture.

On May 3, 2014 at 12:16 pm

This is not an article about the “Top 10 Dragon Age 2 Mods”.
This is an article about the “Top 10 Dragon Age 2 Mods for Straight Male Gamers”.

How on earth can the majority of these be considered in the “top 10″ for anyone but straight male gamers? (and no, these mods and your article are not aimed at lesbian gamers)

It’s this kind of small-scale, casual, daily washing over of the fact that anyone exists apart from straight men that gets frustrating. Bleugh. Terrible list, would not read again.

On July 22, 2014 at 9:21 pm

Wow, that’s a lot of misogyny and racism there recommended to ‘improve’ people’s gameplay.
