Speaking of BioShock, the underwater city of Rapture has also gotten the Minecraft treatment, seen here in an eerily accurate, very faithful recreation. No doubt the cooperative spirit of the Minecraft Community would make Ayn Rand, on whose philosophy the culture of Rapture was based, turn in her grave.

Replete with Art Deco architecture, the Minecraft world is a faithful remake of Rapture in block-form.

Not to be confused with the Imperial City of Cyrodiil in Oblivion, the Imperial City world is a collective project based on continental European cities of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Its creators claim that the city’s style is “typical of the 19th and early 20th centuries”, which they attempt to show off through their re-interpretation of neo-classical/gothic/byzantine/renaissanĀce, Beaux-Arts and Modern Style.

Designed by J.R.R. Tolkien, the writer of Lord of the Rings, the land of Middle-earth is based on a mythical Europe in which the lands are populated not merely by humans, but by all manner of strange races, including orcs, goblins, elves, and dwarves. Due to its popularity and the sheer fact of being the first fantasy world ever developed, Middle Earth has left a lasting impact on speculative fiction in novels, movies, and video games.

It comes as no surprise that fans of the Lord of the Rings would attempt to faithfully recreate the lands of Middle-earth in Minecraft. From the great plains of Rohan near Fangorn, to the valley of Helm’s Deep, the world of Middle-earth has been remade in its entirety.
