Torchlight Sells a Million Copies

Torchlight is truly one of gaming’s feel-good success stories. A group of former Diablo II devs founded a company called Runic Games to do what they love — namely, creating action-packed dungeon crawlers with procedurally generated levels and loot. Torchlight was the result. The game was very well-received, and its affordable price point made it a no-brainer for fans of the genre.

Beyond its pedigree and its established potential for fun, however, Torchlight had another thing going for it: stamina. It may have taken two years, but the game has finally cracked the coveted million-units-shipped mark, and the title’s success is a testament to the talents of its creators and the power of indie games.

Runic is now hard at work on a follow-up — you can check out the trailer for Torchlight 2 below.
