Torment is Kickstarter’s Most Successful Game

Torment: Tides of Numenera has just been declared the most successful game on Kickstarter of all time. During the period of a month, the game managed to receive the pledges of upwards of 70,000 players, amounting to over $4.25 million.

The game was conceived as a spiritual sequel to Planescape: Torment by its co-creator Colin McComb, with InXile as its developers. It is being developed in Monte Cook’s Numenera RPG setting.

By surpassing over $4.25 million in pledges, the Kickstarter fund has guaranteed its development as a full fledged role-playing game with the assistance of Planescape: Torment creator Chris Avellone, fantasy writers like Kevin Saunders and Pat Rothfuss, and Torment and Fallout composer Mark Morgan.

The game will be developed over the next couple of years and will be released in very late 2014, or early 2015.

But it’s not the most successful community (crowdfunding/kickstarter) funded game of all time, that title goes to Star Citizen.
