Total War: Rome 2 Offers 500 Different Unit Types, 118 Factions

Creative Assembly has been slowly revealing each of the factions that are set to grace their upcoming game, Total War: Rome 2, including the Arverni, the Ptolemaic Egyptians, the Macedonians, and the Carthaginians.

At the recent Game Developers Conference 2013, the studio revealed that in contrast to the couple dozen or so factions in previous Total War titles, Rome 2 is set to offer 117 different factions present in the campaign, which begins in the “earliest days of the Roman Republic.”

Most of these minor factions will not be playable, of course, but they’ll pose a variety of threats and challenges to the playable states and tribes available to players. In all, the game’s various factions will be spread across 183 map regions, which is almost twice as many areas as Total War: Shogun 2.

In addition to these factions, the game will offer over 500 different unit types. Apart from how they look, it’s unknown how they’ll all differ from one another and perform on the battlefield.

Total War: Rome 2 is set for release this October on the PC.
