Trademark Filed for Prince of Persia Prodigy

prince of persiaJordan Mechner, creator, owner and video game designer of the Prince of Persia franchise filed to protect the trademark Prince of Persia Prodigy on April 15th. This trademark includes “game software and electronic game programs; electronic game software for mobile phones, personal digital assistants, and handheld computers”.

Since Mechner has licensed the his properties to Ubisoft in the past, Prince of Persia Prodigy may happen to be the much rumored title to the Sands of Time sequel that has been floating around the internet since 2006. The originally rumored title was Ghosts of the Past, but since that has not been trademarked nor mentioned by anyone connected to the franchise, what this title is about and what platform it will be for is up in the air.

Back in December, Gamasutra asked Mechner whether there would be a connection between the name of the new Prince of Persia film and the name of a future game, he refused to comment. This suggested to some that there may be a connection between the movie and future installments.
