[Trailer] Thief: Live Free Or Thief Harder With A Vengeance

If you missed this latest Thief trailer during Spike’s VGX extravaganza, here it is for your Internet enjoyment.

This latest spot drills down into the backstory, something we knew very little about back during E3. Yes, Garrett is a thief, and yes, he has more arrows than Hawkeye, but seeing the apparent motivation behind some of his moves in Eidos Montreal’s stealth-a-thon should help flesh out some early thoughts on the game. Is it love? It might be love…but, what is love? Or maybe Garrett is just following some crazy old lady to the end of the world, I don’t know.

Not putting to much hope into this game, not after Hitman Absolution where they changed to many of the mechanics of a Hitman game. Now with Thief they are adding stuff like instant takedowns, bullet time features, and context sensitive jumps, it looks more and more to be like Dishonored. Dishonored is great but if I wanted to play a game like Dishonored I would play Dishonored. Thief game were about stealth and sneaking around looting item. Hopefully they can create a game that is true to the Thief franchise and not so COD look alike but with a thief and stealth mechanics.

You may have a point, though I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. You can’t really build a trailer around walking slowly behind people and waiting in the shadows, or grabbing things out of safes. Stealth just isn’t really something that lends itself to the exercise. They have said you can beat the game without killing one person if that’s your poison, though whether that means “you can sneak around every guard” or “you have some nonlethal skills but it’s basically the same thing” remains to be seen.
