Transformers Universe Opens Closed Beta Registration

Seeing Optimus Prime ride Grimlock like some sort of pre-historic robot cowboy in the Super Bowl commercial for Transformers: Age of Extinction made me throw up in my mouth.

So it was with apprehension that I pushed play on the new video for Transformers Universe, the long-in-development, free-to-play multiplayer from Jagex (Runescape). To my pleasant surprise, it actually doesn’t look too shabby, taking its  influence from Hasbro’s action figures and cartoons rather than Michael Bay’s movies.

Originally, the beta for Transformers Universe opened in late 2012 and it was slated for 2013 launch. Clearly, Jagex went back to the drawing board, shifting the focus from MMO to what it’s now calling a “massively online tactical action game.” We’ve got plenty of MOBAs to play, Transformers Universe will evidently be the first MOTA.

The game has been overhauled and so has its online portal. Transformers Universe has a shiny new site where you can now register for the upcoming closed beta. Check out the trailer below to see what you’ll be enlisting in:
