Twisted Metal Movie Deal Signed

Now that the Playstation 3 version of Twisted Metal is in stores, creator David Jaffe can stop with the truck-shooting and psuedo-misogynistic-interview-giving. Not for long, however — according to Hollywood gossip site Deadline, Sony Pictures have just inked a seven-figure deal to turn the game into a major motion picture.

The film will be directed by Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance lensman Brian Taylor, and produced by the well-known, Marvel-affiliated duo Avi and Ari Arad. The plan is to stick close to the source material, centering around an underground car combat competition, and fan-favorite characters like Sweet Tooth and Dollface are sure to appear. Twisted Metal may not have much of story, but that’s nothing a few underpaid screenwriters can’t fix.

I think I speak for the collective when I say…”Why?” We’re talking about a game that does not, in any way, shape or form lend itself to cinemazation. Why aren’t they working on Dr Strange or another Marvel franchise?? Heck, even if they were determined to do a game movie, why this? Why not Splinter Cell, or X-COM, or friggin’ Cooking Mama – *anything* but Twisted Metal!!
