Two Unannounced Assassin’s Creed Titles Currently in Development

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag isn’t the only game in the long-running Assassin’s Creed series that’s currently being developed at Ubisoft. According to company CEO Yves Guillemot, the publisher is working on three Assassin’s Creed games, one of which is Assassin’s Creed 4.

He says that the teams working on the games are given enough time to create the different iterations, which he believes helps curb franchise fatigue. Instead of being released back to back, these games are being given enough time to brew.

“We are making sure the teams who are creating the different iterations have enough time—two years, three years, so that they can take risk and they can change the concept enough so that it can be appealing and fresh,” he said in an interview with Kotaku. ‘Our job is to make sure the teams have enough power, enough energy and enough time to take the necessary steps to create a high quality game.”

Guillemot did not specify what titles the company is working on, exactly, and could refer to spin-off titles in the series not a part of the main, numbered series of Assassin’s Creed games.

Guillemot says that Ubisoft’s multi-studio approach to game creation makes it possible for them to work on several games at a time without burning out their developers, who have the leeway to introduce innovation into each of the games they create.

“Really, what we see is that we can have the capacity to regularly come with innovation,” Guillemot said. “That is, for me, the formula: if you can really change the game on a regular basis and bring in innovation your fans want a product very regularly. Our job is to make sure the teams have enough power, enough energy and enough time to take the necessary steps to create a high quality game.”

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is set for a late October release on the PC, Xbox 360, Wii U and PlayStation 3. It is a designated launch title for next-gen consoles.

I’m not sure that Ubisoft is making the right choice on this one. After playing Assassin’s Creed 3, I felt it was a step down in the series and that perhaps the franchise is reaching a point where Ubisoft is ready to end it and perhaps start fresh with something new.

All its going to take is for Assassin’s Creed 4 to be a failure and then Ubisoft is in a financial pickle when they payed to develop two games that won’t help them recover from the losses of the initial failure. Here’s hopes to that NOT happening.

Oversaturation almost always results in failure. I thought Ubisoft would have been a bit smarter than this.
