Ubisoft Confirms Their Own Online Pass

It turns out that the report about the Uplay Passport is correct, because Ubisoft has confirmed that they are bringing out their version of an online pass. They describe the Passport as “a new program designed to provide players with access to bonus content, exclusive offers, and online multiplayer play,” so it’s not just about online multiplayer.

In other news that isn’t actually other news because it’s exactly relevant to this topic, the pass will be included free with new copies of games that make use of the Passport, and it will cost $10 for those who purchase used or rent. Apparently, not every game will use it; Ubi says games that do will have some sort of special Uplay Passport logog on the back of the box. Also, while the report about the Passport said it would start with Driver: San Francisco, Ubisoft hasn’t named any games that will use it.
