Ubisoft Goes Into Detail About PvP and Co-Op in The Division
When The Division first showed up on our radars, the biggest question we had for the game was how the whole thing was supposed to be played, exactly. All that was shown at E3 was a mission in which players, all of whom were a part of the same team, going up against a group of AI-controlled bad guys who were holed up in a building. Beyond that, little was actually explained as to how the game worked.
In an attempt to clear up how the game works, Ubisoft’s senior community developer Antoine Emond explained the game’s co-op and PvP mechanics in a recent Q&A session with the game’s burgeoning community.
“The Division is an online, open world RPG experience where exploration, objectives and player progression are all essential,” he said.
“You can team up with a group of friends in co-op and jump in and jump out at any time. In certain areas, you can also seamlessly engage in PvP and experience suspenseful scenarios where danger can come from anywhere and anyone.”
Emond further explained that Player vs. Player combat will play a heavy role in the game. Emond says that the choices players make as a Division agent can either spur a recovery or plunge the city further into chaos.
“The people you meet in certain areas of the game can either be your best friends or your worst enemies. So you’ll constantly be making decisions that will impact the world around you,” he said.
Emond says that character customization and collectibles will offer each player a unique experience while playing The Division.
“The Division is an RPG, so we really want the player to feel unique; there will be tons of possibilities to customize your agent (thousands of weapon types, skill combinations, gear and much more),” he said.
In development for well over a year, the game is set for release on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
