Ubisoft’s From Dust Tech Demo is Amazing

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a soft spot for so-called ‘God Games.’ You know, the ones that give you phenomenal power over the very land. Games like Populous, Black and White, an others.

One of the biggest wow moments of Gamescom this year was Ubisoft’s unveiling of the tech demo for their new God game, called From Dust. Inspired by Populous, From Dust is set in an extreme version of Planet Earth where Nature is much more violent that we would expect. You’ll have to use your powers to protect the citizens of the planet, and to ensure their survival.

While it’s just a tech demo, it’s still a damned impressive piece of technology. I couldn’t help thinking what a Black and White game built on this engine might look like, or what sort of pets it might offer.

Check out this tech demo, and let us know what you think.

Also I’d like to say this feels as if it will turn to be something similar to Spore. 2 days of play, and the small mechanics and cute things you can do will grow old.

I was wondering when they’d get round to doin a sequel to Populous! In a seriousness, this looks fascinating, thank god it’s not just another Black and White clone like many god games these days!
