Unhappy With Your Starcraft 2 Name? You Can Now Change It For Free

Players in StarCraft 2 can now change their nickname for free. Blizzard has made it possible so that players who are unsatisfied with their current names can opt for a free name change.

If you’re unsatisfied with your current name, simply head on over to the account management system on Battle.net, choose your Starcraft 2 game license, and click on the Character Name Change button to reset your existing name. When next you log onto the game, you’ll be able to select a new name. You should be aware that the change is final.

The service’s availability comes after Blizzard planned to make a name change service available for a fee. The decision to do so was scrapped after the developer decided instead to put its effort into developing Heart of the Swarm and its features for the Battle.net service.

“The fact that we didn’t keep you updated when we deprioritized the feature was a mistake, and we aim to do a much better job of keeping you informed in the future,” says a post by the Starcraft 2 team.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that the lack of name change options has caused anyone. We’ve definitely heard your passion for this subject, and we should have more information about a Paid Character Name Change feature shortly after the release of Heart of the Swarm. In the meantime, we’ve added a new free name change to all player accounts.”

“We’re planning to offer another free name change to all players when the new Clans feature goes live in the next couple of months, so don’t worry about removing your clan tag from your character name with this one. We will alert you to that when the time comes.”
