Unlock XCOM: Enemy Unknown’s 1080p Cinematics with This Trick

Industrious redditor loinbread noticed that the PC version of XCOM: Enemy Unknown ships with both 720p and 1080p video renders, but that the 720p renders are used by default, with no way easy way to use the 1080p ones. That means that not only are you not getting the best quality you could be getting, but that you’ve also used up roughly 4GB of bandwidth for no reason. And if your ISP imposes a monthly bandwidth limit like mine does, that stings.

Fortunately, you can “activate” the 1080p videos by simply renaming the files, as seen in this image.

That sounds like it’s a bug that got missed. I’d think it’d be something they’d resolved with a patch at some point. At least there’s a way to get to them in the meantime.
