Up, Up, and Away! City of Titans Kickstarted

The intensely loyal City of Heroes players who couldn’t save their beloved game have a new home. City of Titans, the spiritual successor to City of Heroes has been Kickstarted.

It didn’t take long for Missing Worlds Media to hit their $320,000 goal for an all-new superhero MMO, and I’m thrilled for them. They fought the good fight in an effort to save City of Heroes last year, and then dusted themselves off after NCSoft decided to pull the plug anyway. Oh, and if $320,000 sounds like a fraction of the overall cost for an MMO, that’s because it is. Just not when you subtract the cost of paying developers. City of Titans will be created by a team of more than 100 volunteers.

Now it’s on to the stretch goals. There are still 26 days left on the City of Titans Kickstarter, and as of this morning, $450,000 is the final stretch goal, which would add a Mac OS version. I hope they get there, and beyond. This is one of the truly feel good gaming stories of 2013.

I second that. Champions Online, despite its occasional charm and the fact its from the same studio as CoH, is a shallow pretender. It was never the proper follow-up that fans wanted. CoH was hurt by its peculiar controls, cluttered UI and a truly dated graphics engine. Here’s hoping Phoenix Project can field enough talent to make the superhero MMO we’ve all been waiting for.

Just to correct you, there are more stretch goals (you’ll see a 500K one has just been added), and there are more behind the scenes, they are just not all being put up at once.

Here, here! Truly excited for this as i spent a good few years with CoH/Cov. CoH was also the only MMO i ever successfully got my wife into playing, so it’d be nice to be able to game with her once more.

Champions online was never meant to be a successor to CoX. It was meant to be Marvel Universe Online until Marvel chickened out and the entire thing had to be revamped before launch
