New Borderlands 2 DLC Raises Level Cap, Adds New Equipment Tier

Gearbox has announced plans to raise Borderlands 2‘s level cap with the release of a new DLC, which launches next month.

Available starting April 2, the DLC will raise the game’s level cap to 61 from 50 and add an all new tier of gear. Titled the Ultimate Vault Hunter’s Pack, the DLC will cost $5 and is available for free to Season Pass owners.

The raised level cap will allow players to increase their characters’ skills to superhuman heights and equip themselves with Pearlescent gear, which is more powerful than any of the legendary equipment currently in Borderlands 2.

In addition to the raised level cap and new tier of items, all players will have the opportunity to experience a new difficulty level called Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, which gives players with maxed out characters the opportunity to put themselves to a much more difficult challenge than anything the present game offers. The update will be free.

The new DLC is separate to the release of the new character named Krieg, which was also announced today at Gearbox’s PAX East panel.

Wait, unless I’m misunderstanding something here, didn’t they say that the level cap increase wouldn’t be something they charged extra for? And yet, this latest DLC sounds like all it is doing is raising the cap with gear and a difficulty mode to go along with it. Yes, the level cap increases in the first game were tied with DLC, but at least that was plot-based DLC.

Actually you could get the cap increase in the first borderlands through a patch that gearbox released. They are doing the same here. They are going to release a patch separate from the dlc so that everyone gets the increased level cap.
