Gearbox has launched the Mechromancer DLC for Borderlands 2 a week early, but some players might experience varying degrees of weirdness if they go for the update on PC. We recommend caution, as some are reporting serious issues, like loss of saved games. Back your stuff up before you update!

However, you might experience a much more minor but still irritating issue as you download the new DLC: a message from Steam that says “Some of your DLC files are corrupted” when you finish snagging the update. Fret not, players — this is not a serious issue, and it should be easily fixed.

To get around the corruption trouble, first go to your Steam Library and find Borderlands 2. Right-click it to pull up the menu and select “Properties.” Go to the “Local Content” tab and find the button that says “Verify Game Cache.” Hit that.

After a minute or two of checking, Steam should inform you that a couple of files didn’t make it through the download and will need to be re-acquired. At that point, you should be able to hit the “Play” button on Borderlands 2 to re-initiate the DLC download. After Steam finishes pulling down the files, try the game again — you ought to have all your DLC installed correctly by now. We’ve had at least two staffers suffer from the same issue (one of whom was me) and fix it through this method.

If you’ve got any other problems (and more importantly, solutions), let us know in the comments so we can get the word out.

Ohey, This issue again.

Okay, I’mma tell you guys the fix, but after this, I’mma just direct people here when they ask again.

This is what fixed it for me. Go to this folder in your explorer:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\
or C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\

You should see a folder named ‘DLC’. Delete it. (Feel free to back it up if you like, but you shouldn’t need to.)

Once you’ve done that, verify the cache integrity for Borderlands 2. If you don’t know what that means, go here.

You should be given a message that a bunch of files are missing and or corrupted and it’ll automatically redownload them for you. You should have about 510ish MB’s to download. Once it’s done, you should have fixed the issue and Gaige should be available to you if you’ve got her update or DLC.

Hope this helps.

Make copies of your files. You can find everything in C:\Users\[Your User Name]\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 2. If you’ve tweaked your .ini files, you might want to save them in another location so you can get them back in case they’re overwritten — same with your saved games, both of which are located in the WillowGame folder. Even just copying these files to your desktop or another location should keep them safe from corruption or overwriting, and then you can put them back in the folder once you’ve updated Borderlands 2 if you do happen to lose them.
