Gearbox has launched the Mechromancer DLC for Borderlands 2 a week early, but some players might experience varying degrees of weirdness if they go for the update on PC. We recommend caution, as some are reporting serious issues, like loss of saved games. Back your stuff up before you update!
However, you might experience a much more minor but still irritating issue as you download the new DLC: a message from Steam that says “Some of your DLC files are corrupted” when you finish snagging the update. Fret not, players — this is not a serious issue, and it should be easily fixed.
To get around the corruption trouble, first go to your Steam Library and find Borderlands 2. Right-click it to pull up the menu and select “Properties.” Go to the “Local Content” tab and find the button that says “Verify Game Cache.” Hit that.
After a minute or two of checking, Steam should inform you that a couple of files didn’t make it through the download and will need to be re-acquired. At that point, you should be able to hit the “Play” button on Borderlands 2 to re-initiate the DLC download. After Steam finishes pulling down the files, try the game again — you ought to have all your DLC installed correctly by now. We’ve had at least two staffers suffer from the same issue (one of whom was me) and fix it through this method.
