Valve Acquires Star Filled Studios, Former Blizzard and PopCap Devs

Valve has acquired Star Filled Studios, the two-man development team that consisted of former PopCap and Blizzard employees Jeff Gates and Tod Semple.

Tod Semple worked on Diablo 3 as part of Blizzard North early in the game’s development and was the programmer that made Plants vs. Zombies. His LinkedIn profile states: “My recent startup was acquired by Valve and we are opening a new office on the San Francisco peninsula.”

Semple’s profile goes on to restate, “We are opening a new Valve office on the San Francisco peninsula.” However, speaking with Joystiq, Valve’s Doug Lombardi said:

“As a point of clarification, this is probably better categorized as Valve hiring two new employees instead of an acquisition of a company or opening of a Valve SF office.”

The exact truth behind these conflicting reports has yet to surface, but what is for certain is that Semple and Gates are now working for Valve.
