Valve: Beta Steam Machines Ship Tomorrow

Three hundred lucky PC gamers are getting an amazing early Christmas gift.

In a post on the Steam OS Community page, Valve announced that its self-made, Steam OS-powered, Steam Controller-controlled Steam Machines will leave the factory (pictured above) tomorrow, Friday the 13th. Fear of Jason Vorhees’ imminent arrival aside, this should be quite a weekend for the 300 beta testers.

Don’t be jealous, 64,999,700 other registered Steam users, because Valve will show us some beta love, too. The in-home streaming beta is going to begin “soon” and Steam OS will be ready for download once the beta Steam Machines ship tomorrow. Don’t get too excited, though. Valve warns that Steam OS is still in a rough state and it doesn’t recommend the download unless you’re an “intrepid Linux hacker already.”

So when will we all get to grab our own Steam Machines? Valve says it will reveal all on January 6 at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show.
