Valve Denies It’ll Show Half-Life 3 at Gamescom, Despite Errant PDF

Valve has officially said it won’t be showing Half-Life 3 at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, even though a PDF listing all the games that would be at the conference previously showed the phantom 3 as among its number.

Also appearing on the list was Dragon Age 3, but according to Eurogamer, organizers of Gamescom said that both listings were a mistake. Earlier, a similar mistake was made with Grand Theft Auto V in a trailer for the convention. Meanwhile, CVG confirms that Valve told it that it wouldn’t be showing anything at Gamescom.

So there’s that. All kinds of big name games are showing up on these Gamescom documents for, I guess, no apparent reason?

My suion is that Valve is showing the Source 2 engine to other developers behind closed doors in an effort to spur interest in potential licensing deals. But the only content developed on the engine thus far is assets for HL3, therefore in essence they are showing off HL3. Again, this is just my own interpretation of what’s going on, and I could be totally wrong. I don’t think there has been much developed for the game itself, therefore I don’t expect an announcement for HL3 this year.
