Valve Introduces ‘Steam Badges’ For Doing Non-Game Stuff

Lost in the crush of Steam’s annual summer sale, or their rap beef with EA, is the surreptitious unveiling this week of a brand new, and strangely interesting Steam feature, Steam Badges. Steam Badges are kind of like achievements, the difference being that you earn them by completing tasks within Steam, not within your games. The photo above (courtesy of CVG) shows a few of them, earned by participating in Steam events; as CVG notes, there are retroactive badges for tasks already completed. Essentially, this turns using Steam itself into a game.

So have at it, Game Fronters. Let us know in comments what you’ve earned.
