Valve Launches Steam Early Access Program
Valve has announced a new “Early Access” system on Steam that allows game developers to set up their titles to provide early access to players wanting to get involved with the games during their development.
According to Valve, the goal of Early Access is to “provide gamers with a chance to go behind the scenes and experience the development cycle first hand.” Additionally, players with early access will be able to interact with the developers by providing them with feedback on their games and aid in the process of the game’s development while it’s being created.
Normally, developers have to come up with their own way to solicit feedback from game testers and handle distribution by themselves. With Steam’s Early Access, they’ll be able to use Steam as a platform for collecting feedback and disseminating nightly builds to their testers. Like other titles on Steam, players will also be able to interact with others, making it quite easy to share screenshots and other findings.
