Valve Says Dota 2 Will Pack LAN, Mod Support

Leave it to Valve to make sure Dota 2 will be cool.

The developer has confirmed that its upcoming Dota 2 will include both LAN support for old-school PC players, as well as modding support – meaning there’s no end to the craziness DOTA 2 will likely spawn.

Project Lead Erik Johnson told that Valve is still working on the LAN mode and there are features that need to be completed before it’s ready, but the developer is definitely working on it. Right now, Johnson said, the focus has been on matchmaking, but it sounds like Valve is going to get around to finishing up the LAN features once matchmaking is handled.

Johnson also confirmed that the game will include mod support, mentioning Valve’s history for supporting the mod community in all its games. He said he couldn’t offer an update on Dota 2’s release date or whether it will be free-to-play, however.
