Valve Takes Trading Cards Out of Beta, Hints at Major Event

It’s difficult to say whether Steam’s newly implemented system of Trading Cards has been a success for the company, especially given their reticence in revealing much—if anything—about their business practices to the public. However, with that said, the company continues to iterate on existing features and plans to move the system out of beta this coming Wednesday, on June 26.

This means that all the features beta testers have been testing will be made available to the public at large, and the system itself will see the addition of several new games.

According to Valve, a few features that were originally planned for release—Trade Offers and the Card Binder—have been pushed back to a later date. It’s only a matter of Valve Time before they’re released.

Valve says that making trading cards available to all Steam users is but a step towards “an event we think everyone can be excited about.” It’s anyone’s guess as to what they’re talking about.

Oh its a killer with the community there is alot of people with fully upgraded Card Badges and some of them are 5 ranks that takes trading the full deck of cards of a game 5 times and some games have 8 cards.

Clearly Valve in their infinite wisdom knew this sort of collectible thing is attractive to the community not only that the people who don’t care for those cards\badges can sell their cards on the community market and help fund their next game purchases I personally made some nice amount of $ just selling a few cards for a game I have no interest in.

This will probably rival hat popularity found amongst TF2 players.

On top of all that crafting a Badge from a Deck of cards will give you random profile background pictures, special chat icons and discount coupons for random games Its quite neat really and I normally don’t care for this kind of stuff but they did a nice job with this.
