VGA 2011: Diablo 3 Debut Trailer

Deckard Cain! No… NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

The world premiere of the Diablo 3 opening cinematic debuted at the 2011 VGAs, and it seems like Blizzard killed off one of the series’ most memorable characters before the game even begins. Can they really do that? I, like Break Media Gaming Editor Mark Burnham, suspect there is more at play — that some Deus Ex machina will save our dear Cain from that apocalyptic meteorite impact.

We still don’t have an official release date, but the earliest speculated date predicts the game will hit shelves on January 17. Don’t hold your breath, though. It’ll still be a while before we learn Cain’s fate.

We’re going to rescue Deckard Cain and he’ll ID magical items for us again.
If not… well then D3 will suck.

This leads right into the beginning of Act I where he’s rescued.
No more ID jobs for Cain though … at least not in the beta

I think the intro for D2 was much better setup for the game compared to this one. Here’s hoping they change/add to it.
