Video gamers are uniting, or at least signing on to the Video Game Voter Network’s cause. And look how far they’ve come–they now have more members in their network than there are people in Tonga.
“Politicians who think easy political points can be scored at the First Amendment’s expense have to know that such efforts will be aggressively opposed,” Michael D. Gallagher, President of the Entertainment Software Association, said in a WebWire article. “VGVN and the ESA would rather work in a collaborative and productive partnership to educate caregivers about how to ensure the games their children enjoy are parent-approved.”
I think the words “the games their children enjoy” should be emphasized, because once again, it is ultimately up to parents what their kids should or should not play. Games adults enjoy and games children enjoy are two different things; and considering the ever increasing number of older gamers, the notion that only kids play video games needs to be erased.
The VGVN is a great cause, it would seem. Hopefully their presence will make a difference–I for one am under the impression that no one needs to tell video game developers what they can or can’t make. The first amendment is tricky, but an issue which is well worth bickering about.
