Vigil Games to Develop Warhammer 40K MMO

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning hasn’t even been released and now word comes that Warhammer 40K will be joining in on the MMO scene. Austin TX based Vigil Games has been taped by THQ to develop the title. If Vigil delivers a solid product 40K will be an excellent alternative for MMO gamers, as the industry is currently dominated by fantasy based titles. 40K’s rich history offers the same level of lore that helped make WoW such a success.

It is seriously about time. No one has been brave enough to take this one on, because as far as gaming genres go, it is the best sci-fi fantasy world to re-create in a MMO. All the others just don’t work; Star Wars, Star Trek, LOTR – those are best left to the books. And while WOW is very well put together, Blizzards writers can’t match or invent a universe as rich as what Games Workshop and all its fans have developed over the years. There are novels, shortstory magazines, graphic novels, comix galore, and of course all the tiny little stories that dot every Games Workshop publication that have made the 40K universe so immense. Blizzard tries to infuse this in WOW, but they just don’t have the right stuff. Games Workshop does, and I pray Vigil does this right.
