Vigil Wants to Patch Lackluster Darksiders 2 PC Port

If you didn’t already know, the PC port of Darksiders II is pretty crap. Or, more accurately, it’s just an incredibly straight port — it’s a console game ripped directly off the nearest living room system and deposited squarely on the PC platform, without taking advantage of the PC in even a cursory way.

But developer Vigil wants to fix that, at least to a degree, by patching the PC version to throw in config files and the like to at least give players a little say in how the game looks.

“Wants” is the operative word, apparently, because Vigil doesn’t seem to be sure if it will actually be able to patch Darksiders II on PC:

“During the Community Summit both Jay Fitzloff and I were under the impression that full .config files and final keyboard/mouse and controller hookups were going to work as promised when the PC version of the game launched. That was the plan at the time from a specifications perspective. Unfortunately, especially at the end of the development cycle, sometimes things change at the last minute, and this was one of them. This puts us in an uncomfortable spot as we were acting on the best information we had at the time, and it has turned out not to be in the final game (at this point).

“Since it was always the intention to implement these features, as I type this, the development team is checking to see what items can get added into the game. While I can’t promise what can be done, I can promise we are working with the proper teams and have expressed the importance of including them in a patch.”

While Darksiders II does work on PC and it’s pretty solid, as it stands right now, I can’t see why anyone would want to play it on PC. It’s clearly a game built for consoles, and the controls are just irritating. It’s a bummer, because the game would be a lot more fun for PC players if it had been tweaked for the platform even just a little. Here’s hoping Vigil is able to make some changes to improve it.

Grade A bull there.”We managed to mess up everything, from the UI to the setting” is not an excuse for anything except getting fired.

I think the game is fine on PC. I already knew it was a console port so I use my 360 controller and transfer it to my 42″ HD. Any PC gamer knows there ports by now. They are still enjoyable if played how they were built for. A TV and controller! Mainly I dont mind it because I dont own a PS3 or Xbox…

Its when game releases delay the PC version of a game to put ‘Extra work’ into the game to take advantage of PC hardware, then it doesn’t follow through is when it gets messy. Which lately….has been almost every damn game!

these game companies wonder why pc games are pirated to hell and back. Quit giving pc people inferior ports that run like , and maybe people will buy them.
