Wargaming.net Acquires Gas Powered Games

Gas Powered Games, maker of titles such as Dungeon Siege and Supreme Commander and the studio behind the recently canceled Kickstarter project Wildman, has been acquired by World of Tanks creator Wargaming.net.

“Wargaming will take full ownership of Gas Powered Games, bringing into its fold a contingent of veteran developers, including CEO and company founder Chris Taylor,” a press release on the deal said. “The acquisition will further bolster Wargaming’s push into multiplatform expansion, including the recent acquisition announcement of Chicago-based Day 1 Studios and MMO middleware provider Big World Pty Ltd.”

The Kickstarter project for Wildman was considered to be the last gasp to save Gas Powered Games from closing before the acquisition, with desperate pleas going out to both gamers and journalists in the form of emails asking for support. However, with four days to go, Wildman had only earned about half of its $1.1 million goal, and Gas Powered Games canceled it to focus on “other ways to keep the company running,” according to a report from The Verge.

Game Front reached out to Wargaming.net to find out what the acquisition would mean for the future of Wildman, or whether any Gas Powered Games employees would lose their jobs in the deal. Wargaming issued the following response: “Currently, Wargaming doesn’t have any information to share other than that we’re extremely excited to welcome Chris and his team to our family and look forward to sharing more about what they’ll be working on at a later date.”

We’ll update this story as we receive any more information.

I don’t really like Wargaming since they make their game so much as a PvP and not so much of PvE so I’m not going to touch any of of their games.
