Warhammer Age of Reckoning Zone Overview: Ellyrion

Warhammer Age of Reckoning has opened the flood gates on the elven content which is spilling forth at an alarming rate. The latest newsletter fills in more of the back story on the conflict between the Elven forces by featuring the disputed territory; Ellyrion. Currently held by the High Elves, the fields and meadows of Ellyrion known as the breeding grounds for the finest Elven steeds in all of Ulthuan may soon become a battleground in the war for the Phoenix Throne.

When I first read over this article, what intrigued me most was the description of the Elven horsemen. Of course I couldn’t help but envision Rohirrim with pointy ears. I can’t recall a story where elves have been portrayed as horsemen; the whole scraping hooves, wiping down the lather and mucking out stalls included. I’ve read books and played games in which elves have ridden out of necessity, but never one where that level of care or kinship between animal and… elf was alluded to. It strikes me as both odd and interesting. Perhaps the Warhammer Elves aren’t like every other tall, lithe, delicate, pointy eared, (stuck up) unearthly beauties in every other game out there. These elves are willing to get their hands dirty.

Wow, that picture looks a lot like that work in progress picture for that level being created by a third party for oblivion.

Of course, it only looks similar.

Looks nothing like that mod other than it’s a city shot from the sky. But, it’s amazing to me how much that game looks like WoW. Yes, it uses the same engine, but dang. Could they maybe have mixed it up a little more?
