Watch Dogs Promo Site Leaks a Bunch of User Emails

An email faux pas from the promotional website for Watch Dogs, Ubisoft’s upcoming title that’s all about hacking, has accidentally leaked thousands of users’ email addresses onto the Internet.

Ubisoft started up the website earlier this month after Watch Dogs’ head-turning showing at E3 2012, where users could sign up for updates about the game by entering their email addresses. Today, when the campaign sent out an email to thousands of users, those addresses were leaked — because they were all left in the “CC” field (likely rather than being placed in the “BCC” field, where they would have been hidden from each recipient.

According to a report from CVG, not every person on the Watch Dogs list had his or her email leaked, and not every person who received the email also received the huge list of addresses. Ubisoft has yet to make an official comment about the leak; we’ll keep an eye out for more information and update accordingly.

Why do I have the feeling this is just part of the marketing campaign?
