Watch The New Mass Effect: Paragon Lost Trailer

Few things were as disappointing in 2012 quite like the way the Mass Effect series imploded spectacularly. Mass Effect 3 ended so poorly that even nearly a year later I simply cannot muster the will to play the first two games again, which makes me kind of sad, similar to how you feel when you run into a treasured friend from college and find out they’ve completely let themselves go and also they’re working at a pawn shop despite having two, count em, two degrees.

Anyway, despite this, I remain somewhat interested in the animated film Mass Effect: Paragon Lost, which is about the adventures of James Vega prior to signing up with Shepard. Some people hate the character but Vega is one of the things I unambiguously like about Mass Effect 3, even if his character’s inclusion seems to have some at the expense of EVERYONE YOU LIKED FROM MASS EFFECT 2. (I suspect Freddie Prinz Jr.’s paycheck was bigger than everyone else’s. Sigh.) Now we have a new trailer for the thing, and here it is:

To be honest, it looks like crap. The writing might be really good, but this animation looks cheaper than Inspector Gadget. Sigh.

So what do you think? Sound off in comments.

The animation to me doesn’t look bad per-say, just very flat. I’d say it’s on par with or slightly lower quality of an average anime show released today. Not saying that’s a good thing but eh, did ya expect a lot from BW? ( I know they didn’t animate it, but they did pay for it and I would assume approve of something like animation style and quality.)

Just seen it.
Well, it do looks like crap. And at first it seemed the story and the characters are staying at a low childish anime crap level.
But the story was getting better and better, and to tell the truth : by the end, I loved it, and completely forgot how ugly it is.

Hellblazer – your act is getting really, really stale. You’re not a ‘true Mass Effect fan’, you’re a ‘true fanboy troll incapable of backing any of my points up evidentially or theoretically and instead have to resort to hurling mud at people who challenge my views.’ Even Wesker1984, who was long seen as just another massive fantard, has been capable of criticising BioWare over some of its decisions. You, on the other hand, are just a mindless chump begging to be ripped off again, and the rest of the industry is suffering for it. You are the antithesis of everything that gamers should represent.

Either grow up or sod off, because it’s tedious having to scrape through your banal rubbish on a daily basis.

Yea, I am not expecting any better than the Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker film, and we all know how disappointing that was.

Also, Vega? No one likes Vega, what were they thinking?

I think I got an email about this…I replied (yes I know it goes to a auto responder and dead mailbox) and ask that they stop sending unsolicited jokes to my e-mail.

I have no particular problem with Vega, he’s bland but he’s not offensively bad or anything. Besides which, I think Freddie Prinze Jr did a decent job as voice actor as I honestly didn’t even realise it was him. Really, there’s far, far greater problems with further ME content than the presence of James Vega – i.e. the fact it shouldn’t exist in the first place, according to BioWare’s own assurances.
