Welcome to the GameFront Launch Center!

Dear readers,
Your eyes do not deceive you. GameFront hath arrived!

We’re adding new features, a prettier (more readable) design, and of course a stronger name that better reflects our full arsenal of content. This is a big step for the site, and we’re excited to take it into a new era. But don’t misunderstand: what you know and love about FileFront is STILL HERE, and it’s not going anywhere. We’re still the best collection of demos, patches and mods on the planet, and we’ll be working to improve those products even further in the future.

The GameFront Launch Center will help keep you up to speed with new features, changes and bug reports as we work on tightening up all the nuts and bolts. This is a big project, and we’re all running around with our faces on fire trying to make everything work as it should. We appreciate your patience and understanding in the coming weeks.

To get started exploring GameFront, you can head over to the Launch Center, or go straight to: How to Find Files, or the Bug Reports List.

Stay tuned, and game on!

Looking good, but you should probably resize the box holding the content, cause if you scroll down you can see that it enters the background, unless that was intentional

Been using this place since it was owned by UGO.
File Front was what it was called, even though it might not sound right for the blog posts about games, it was what it was named. It’s been special since.
Unless I’m getting an early April fools, I don’t like this.

som3 guy: Just as info, FileFront was never owned by UGO. At one time, they were the primary advertising provider on the site, but that’s it.

Also, question: What is it with everyone thinking everything that happens to us about April Fools? When the site was threatened with being shut down in early 2009 prior to being purchased by its original owners, people thought we had pulled an April Fool’s Day prank.

Ron Whitaker: If you (The owners of the site) didn’t give a crap about the feedback that you asked for, and had the idea of doing this from the start, why did you ask for feedback? If you looking for bug fixes, that’s bugs, not feedback. I know most of the feedback you got on the article that I can’t seem to find anymore was mostly negative. The feedback I gave was instead of changing the name, change the slogan. now a quick search brings “gamefront.de”, then you got “gamefront.co.uk” which looks like a chinese knock-offs site, and then some other useless crap.

I was very happy when you got aquired by Break Media instead of shutting down because I can’t see myself waiting for a download in a virtual line, but I was worried the site might change. It did not, and that’s great, because when you see break’s other sites, you get an odd feeling about their approach to their audiance. For example:

Chickipedia- sounds like a porn site – might I add pretty useless
Holy Taco- Unless you just discovered the net yesterday that site will not bring up “food” (or whatever that site is supposed to be about) in your brain.
Mademan- Wannabe Gangstas chillout place.

Ok I’m gonna stop ripping on Break media now.

I’m not trying to anger you, but I do find it stupid that you ask “Does this make me look fat?”, we said “No.” and you still went and changed the dress.

To answer your question: usually when People get the feeling that something might never go away, and then get told that it is going away, their first reaction is “That can’t be true..must be fake”. Please tell me you have read abut the 5 stages of grief and loss. First stage? Denial.

@MMO Player: First, I want to thank you for being a FileFront user for so long. Our passionate users are a big reason that we’ve been around for going on ten years (more if you count our days as FileLeech). Being acquired by Break has been a great thing for us and our users so far. Downloads are faster, we’ve giving you more coverage than ever, and we’ve still got files running out our ears.

If you read Mark’s reply on the other post (found here: http://www.gamefront.com/filefront-is-changing-to-gamefront/comment-page-1/#comment-65757), you’ll see why the change was made. We’re expanding the focus of the site to more than just files. Trust me, this is a good thing.

Here’s what Mark said:

“I think a key distinction to make here is that there are (very broadly speaking) two types gaming site names. There are names that say “gaming, without limitations” (1up, GameSpot, GamesRadar, Joystiq), and then there are names that say “gaming, but with a very specific, niche focus on content” (FilePlanet, FileShack, GameFAQs, CheatCC, MyCheats, WikiCheats, ModDB).

What we were faced with, is that FileFront is most definitely one of the latter. We really want to grow the site, offer more content and make it work better. We did not feel this was possible under “FileFront,” a name that very clearly, and loudly proclaims a focus in a single vertical.”

I think this sums it up. I feel certain that if you stick around, you’ll continue to see major positive changes that will alleviate the worries that you obviously have right now. I look forward to hearing your thought in a few months.

@LightAce That is in fact by design. By I’ll mark your comment down as “don’t like” ;) . We’re definitely not done with the design. We’ll continue making it more readable, clear and easy to navigate.

Thanks!

bring back the files!!

I personally prefer having the black theme over the white theme. But personally I also have my doubts of the name change. Mainly because regardless of the changes here on GameFront, FileFront was still mainly used for file sharing across the internet and that still hasn’t changed.

So why not having 2 sites instead? FileFront and GameFront. Filefront for all files, and gamefront for all game related news, information and downloads.

@Skyrider It is true that FileFront is primarily a bastion of files. However, like all sites and companies, we wanted to evolve. This evolution incorporated the other facet that we used to cover quite extensively with a decent amount of success, GamingToday. GamingToday covered the news but was a separate entity from the main page of FileFront.com which really only showed small amounts of information that no one really seemed to notice. The decision to blend GamingToday to be on the main page of GameFront.com was a first step in incorporating all of what the site offers you in a more unified and easy to access design.

The site is still growing and changing. Believe me, we definitely read your opinions and suggestions and take them into consideration when making any new changes.

There is still one question remains on my mind about this, what about of this site didn’t reach your vision that is was to be? will you change the name back? because I’ve seen many people use FileFront links as mirrors to their files to the other sites and that’s one of the reasons why FileFront was popular back on 02-07 or quite so.

Well It seems the site is slowly getting back to normal and I thank all the guys that are working hard to do so. Big thanks to the game front team and break media for keeping the site up. Keep up the good work I’ll keep viewing you guys as long as we get those files back on the front pages. I might sign up as a member of this site since I’ve been posting so much or should I remain the anonymous guest? I’m sure you guys have been tracking my posts which is good, have to keep out the spamming. Again Thanks guys for all the hard work.

Well Jeff Mills.. Since you accept suggestions :D .. It would be great if the site can have a password recovery feature. I haven’t seen such ability in a long long while.

I tried to like this site. but you guys suck so hard. ur not even trying…

1.your sign in/up process is clunky and useless
2.your writing is stupid and not funny or edgy like you think it is
3.The articles ideas are okay…but again the writing seriously needs work

Thanks @Kim!
@Danny, that’s one of our top priorities at the moment, for sure. We’re working hard on it.

Our engineers have done a great job delicately handling this transition, so we’re doing ok with SEO at the moment. But you’re right that we need get that fixed asap.

Thanks for reading guys, and happy new year!
