What Happened to the BioShock Movie?

Seeing as it was one of the more critically and commercially successful games of 2007, it seems a sure bet that Hollywood would come knocking for the movie rights to BioShock. So why haven’t we heard anything definite about a movie based on this gem? Well, it’s not for Hollywood’s lack of trying. Rumor has it that a number of production companies have expressed interest in a deal with Take Two, but the publisher has so far rebuffed all advances. No idea why at this point, though some are speculating that it may be due to monetary disagreements or that they may be hoping to secure a much larger alliance with a studio. Or maybe they’re smart enough to realize that no matter how intelligent the story, Hollywood will certainly find a way to dilute it into box office dreck.

yea, bioshock would make a terrible movie honestly.. kinda like doom, one of the greatest games of its generation and yet we get a steaming pile of staring the rock for a movie.

I can imagine some great movie plots for bioshock, but in the hands of hollywood these days, it would certainly become just a popcorn highspeed movie without any deeper story (i admit i would like to see the bioshock world on a big screen adaption anyway). Let´s hope they just wait for the right (a good) script.

Games simply dont translate well to the big screen (with a few rare exceptions). What i would like to see is more original movies, or hell even more based off of books. Being a sci-fi fan i look at things through those glasses, and i wonder why there have never been movies made of the Foundation series, or any of Harry Turtledove’s great alternate history series. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a perfect example of what can be done with a book series on the big screen, when its done right. Games are for playing, not watching.
