What The Hell is Skyrim’s ‘Dawnguard?’ Speculate With Us!

Hey Elder Scrolls junkies! Like us, you’re undoubtedly wondering what the hell the newly announced DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Dawnguard, is going to be all about. So come randomly speculate about it with us!

We won’t be getting more details about the DLC until E3 2012, most likely, so in the meantime, we figured we could all sit around, drawing on the deep well of Elder Scrolls lore to take some well-reasoned (and not so well-reasoned) guesses at what the expansion might focus on.

Scans of Skyrim patch 1.5.26 suggest the DLC will likely include a character called the Snow Elf Prince, mentioned in the in-game book “Fall of the Snow Prince.” There’s also the town called Dawnstar in Skyrim that might play a role.

Here are a few other things we immediately thought of:

  • Mythic Dawn, the Mehrunes Dagon-worshiping cult players battle against in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • The Dawnbreaker Sword
  • Something…Redguard-related

Another hint from the DLC image is the fact that the Dragonborn’s eyes are glowing in a sort of supernatural way. Now, it’s been a while since I played Skyrim (a hard drive crash ate my 60-hour PC playthrough and I haven’t had the heart time to start back up again), but I can’t recall the Dragonborn’s eyes glowing. Could it be some kind of Daedric influence? GOD I HOPE SO.

Well if we go by Oblivion, the DLC will be related to a Daedric Prince of some kind. We were already introduced to the hilarious Sheogorath and ESIV was all about Mehrunes Dagon.

Checking on the wiki (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Azura), Azura is the patron Prince of Dawn and Dusk. If it is related to her, I hope it’s just as entertaining as the Sheogorath stuff was. The conversations with him alone were worth the DLC cost.

It is named for the dish soap. The quest involves cleaning trees and small animals after a petroleum-filled dragon explodes at high altitude near the Eldergleam Sanctuary.

@Jeff Mills
Hell, I’d be fine with just another Sheogorath expansion.

for the fist time the dragon born has what look like some kind of arrows, these could be crossbow bolts implying the fact about crossbows. its hard to tell if there arrows or crossbow bolts. also the dragon born looks older meaning the evnets could be set after the game play of the campaign. also the glowing eyes could imply new powers or maybe a curse or new ability. it could be the dragonborn is given some godly ability and he becomes a gaurd for the gods, it may be that it is actualy two words no one and he is the pretector of the light or the comeing days

Could be about dawnstar, could be about vampires. Could be about fighting vampires in dawnstar but I doubtit will be either. Also is that on word or two. Dawn Guard or Dawnguard or two different things.

Just so you know, there’s a typo (“What do you guys thing?”) at the end of the article.

My guess would be that the Dawnguard are a group of Falmer who weren’t enslaved by the Dwemer, most likely because they were guarding something…dawn related.

A new Akaviri invasion with mainland Morrowind as the setting.

@harry
they look more like crossbow bolts because arrowas are longer and hvae more feathery ends with the exception of deadric, dwemer, and ebony arrows which have hard metal fins

Im alomst sure that there will be crossbows, beacuse some files in the latest patch gave some clues. the glowing eyes may be something about the nine divines or a new sort of shout-thing. but probably something bigger than the war betwean stormcloaks and imperials.
