Why You Can See Morrowind from Skyrim – Todd Howard Says “Maybe We’ll Use It One Day”

By means of console commands, Skyrim players can visit Morrowind and the entire continent of Tamriel. While these landmasses are rendered in scarce detail, it raised the question:

Bethesda’s Todd Howard told Kotaku at DICE last week that “the story is they are there.”

The reason they are there – and I will not say if we are or are not using them in the future – is when we first built the landmass for Skyrim we knew we were going to have these tall mountains.

And what can you see? We have views early in the project where you can see into the [neighbouring] province from the other game. We needed to have something [there].

It’s not high detail. If you walk there, from a distance it’s…yeah, the stuff is there. And the thinking is, maybe we’ll use it one day, but our larger worry was, I’m going to climb up on top of a mountain and look that way. What will I be able to see there? We try to cover all those angles as much as we can.

While Howard didn’t suggest the content would be used in the future, he also didn’t rule it out. I suspect that, while there are no current plans to make use of Morrowind, plans could change if there’s enough of a demand. DLC, anyone?

Or better yet — would any of you talented modders out there like to take a crack at this?

I would say modders but most are more concerned with their sex, furry, anime, and garbage clogging up a game that was supposed to be about barbarians and pillaging said inferior pathetic losers.

Yes please! Bring on the Morrowind DLC. Be it modders or original programmers, I’m up for a lot more Skyrim main storyline gaming. Just having side quests remaining isn’t enough for me. Eventually you begin to realize you’re not really doing anything but sitting in front of your computer screen. Games are meant to steal you from reality, similar to the experience most drug users endure. That’s what I’m waiting for, the full-blown, fully immersive I’ve left my world behind experience. Because, let’s face it, if your life sucks gaming is so much better. <–Honesty alert!!!
