Wii Fit Gets a Release Date

wii fit

Catering to the overweight gamer and fans of Sweating to the Oldies, the Wii Fit was the height of disappointment this year at E3. For a company that is known to push the boundaries of what is kitsch and eclectic, the Wii Fit takes the cake. Following the new fad of people losing weight while playing Wii Sports, Nintendo is only one micro step away from being fully endorsed by Jared and his overlords at Subway restaurants. At any rate, the game along with the Balance Board will cost $69.99 when it hits stores on January 1, 2008 – no word on whether a diet plan will be included with the user manual.

I think this link works.

I must admit I might buy this. The US has a serious weight problem, me included. If it could help the kids get healthier I am all for it.

Thanks “Me”. I really hate spell check – it is almost useless and has made everyone lazy.
Hey LaChandra, I could lose a few pounds myself, but I would rather not do this at home and have Neil make fun of me while I do it. Maybe if I had one in a Panic Room with the utmost privacy I would consider it.
And to the first person to comment – The link works just fine. Sorry it did not work for you – it links to the wii site, so just try it manually instead. :-)

I totally called this. (ok, so I’m captain obvious).

Anyway, I didn’t see this as a disappointment at all. I’m pretty excited about it, as is my wife. January 1st should see some serious wii sales. I can’t wait for the first skateboarding/surfing/snowboarding games.

DISAPPOINTMENT?! Of course people would call it a disappointment. It’s fresh and exciting. The possibility of actually getting EXERCISE while playing a game instead of raising fat and cholesterol consumption just might blindside a few of us. The idea that we can’t be stuffing our faces with cake and potato chips while playing a game is just scary. I bet every single person who has a problem with this game is fat and disgusting. Go play your PS3 and Xbox360 with “cool” and “amazing” graphics. If you don’t like the new revolution in gaming, just shut up and play your high graphics games in peace. Sitting down + holding a game controller + not moving + eating food = heart attack by age 40. You will not be missed.

Bryan you obviously have some serious fat rage issues.

I’m excited about it too, my kids just want to sit on their butts and do nothing, this will be a fun thing for them to and keep them moving. It’s impossible to get them to exercise outside everyday, given the heat/rain/etc, but this could help.

I think “used cisco” has an interesting point, this could open the door to surfing/snowboarding/skateboarding as well. How about this thing playing Tony Hawk? Still disappointing? I think not.

 this game is going to be wiked and is not going to be a disapointment, whoever does not like it is probably way overwieght and doesnt like the idea of having to get of the sofa to play it

bloody brilliant. The only thing annoying or disappointing with Nintendo is the delayed reaction with getting good software made and released.

The people bagging this concept are a real drag. There is nothing like this at all and the positive side-effects are a bonus.

The target market for nintendo is just broadeding with every new step they take. As a business they are proving their success year in year out.

My husband and I can’t wait for the new year. Too bad its not out now! I don’t understand some people. I’m not a gamer that will sit and twiddle my thumbs to chop up an alien. Fun and get into shape in one fell swoop… All for it!

How can you be disappointed in this? Sure it is being marketed as a fitness tool currently, but this is only the begininng of the applications for a gamepad that measures weight distribution!

Granted the fervor has died down now but look at what everyone though when we got to wave zelda’s sword by using a joystick like a sword. Now apply this principle to his dodge, sidestep, using cover during a FPS, or even golf stance during a tiger woods game (if sports is your thing).

The possibilities for this application are astounding for creative game makers to link it with the wireless controls! Take those games that already have you twitching on the couch and add something that makes your twitch into a useful skill.

This is what I am seeing the later applications of the Wii Fit controller used for…..

I think this is cool but not because of the wieght loss thing, im under wieght. i just think the possibilitys of this are endless every game could have a version using the balance board thing, just like some have for the wii zapper

I am absolutely psyched about this whole deal! I never really gamed before the Wii because I can’t sit still and do nothing for long periods of time. I’m way too active! ADHD? That’s me all the way. Anyway, since I got a Wii gaming isn’t all that bad. Once this Wii Fit and balance board come out I’m gonna be serious about it. My appologies to all the tubby, lazy fruit pops who feel violated by innovation! We all just can’t sit around and collect pant sizes just to be a part of good graphics. Much respect to Nintendo for taking it to the next level!!!

no offense, but honestly, people in the US are simply fat. You can try to be politically correct all you want, but the true is that this is a country full of fat people with very poor eating habits. May be this will help the junk-food eaters-dont-care-to-learn-to-cook people in this country. I have been many countries, and you can just easily spot american tourists, there are usually the white fat people walking around (speaking english)….because most people in other countries are not fat at all. No joke

 Hi all

What a brill idea. Gaming will take a new dimention. It seem that the geeky gamers (of which I could be one), who’s only enjoyment is the couch and ‘better graphics, can get the concept of vidio gamming which might have a positive effect on your wellbeing!!!

Can’t wait for it to come out here in Ireland!!!!

Any one know a release date here?

 I agree that Americans are fat and have terrible eating habits. I am a fat American and cannot wait to get wii fit. Why must people on this message board accuse “fat and disgusting” people of being the culprit behind calling this game dissapointing. I have a great life, besides being a bit overweight and do not need to use negatives to make rude assumptions about people. My skinny (gamer) friends are the people who are saying this will be a dumb game.

Jenn

On December 23, 2007 at 7:37 am

I really hope they release updates for games like SSX snowboarding, so that we can actually controll the characters by using the board. It would be great!

want to be a wii one!

On December 23, 2007 at 9:53 am

I agree, this is the kind of game that skinny people would call dumb… those of us who struggle with our size and want to get in shape see its potential. I’ve lost 130 pounds, am in my ideal weight range, and will be buying one of these to help me lost the last 10! Yay, Wii!!!

really fat momma

On December 29, 2007 at 12:51 am

Just wanted to let you know…I am not just a little but overweight…..I am a hell of a lot over weight…..I bought the wii system purposely for the wii fit game….and the fact that you have to be active to play the games….i have only bought the active games for it….not the ones that take the classic controls….we have several other game systems in this house….and the wii is the only one i play…and the only one i really want my children to play…because you have to be active to play it…..so please stop accusing us fat slobby people of being the ones who DON’T like this game…. thanks…. :!:

I absolutely love this idea. I’ve been waiting for it to come out in America since it was announced. My friends and I are gamers, and… most of them are normal weight, while I am way underweight (90lbs. -cough-). We all think it is a spectacular idea, and will bring a depth to the gaming experience. Who cares about graphics when you could be having fun using skills, not button mashing? That’s what we’re interested in. We’re teens, and we love the idea. Our parents think it’s interesting, but probably won’t play it much. Still, this is the best gaming idea ever. I think it’s appealing to a large population of gamers, however, I also think that many that can’t accept the change in the gaming universe.

Come on, every country has a weight problem…why always pick on America. The people of America are no differant from any other really…We laugh, play, we hurt, we cry. We lose loved ones. We do not like our politicans any more than the rest of the country likes thiers, but we are at thier mercy sadly. They lie to get votes and are so good that alot of people are desperate to believe them.. So in the mean time we play the wii games. It is the best we think and are looking forward to the wii fit. When will it be available to us overweight Americans? I could sure use it..

GO yourselves you god DA MN losers who hate the Wii’s innovation. Motion sensing technology adds more realism than any graphics ever could. DO NOT BE BITTER BECAUSE YOU SPENT OVER 600 DOLLARS ON ONE SYSTEM. I DO NOT GO ON THE PS3 FORUMS AND CALL YOU A I N DOUC HEBAG, BUT YOU ALL KNOW YOU ARE, SO STOP THE BITTERNESS. I HOPE ALL GET ANALLY PROBED BY WII WANDS TONIGHT, BECAUSE I BET THAT WOULD BE YOUR PRIMARY USE FOR ONE. THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT.

sad articles like this is why I never bother with this site unless google links it, and even then it’s only if I don’t read the url before I come.

It’s pretty pathetic how little imagination you’d have to have to see this would be great for a lot of people.

bleurgh… anyway, not a wii fanboy but seriously, some of the hostility towards aspects of it borders on ridiculous.

The advertising is really REALLY lame though. Always smarmy grinning idiots who look like they’re out of a christian family advertisement or something. As is the case for most wii software unfortunately. Compare with Ps3 and Xbox software, most wii adverts make me want to run and hide behind the couch.

Just off the jet from Japan… Loved the wii fit game… its on display for sampling at some stores… bought mine for regular price there at Y8,000JPY, about $77US. Had to answer some strange questions at customs, but other than that, well worth it! I’ll get the US version as well, when its finally released here!

I have a theory of why the delayed release dates for the US… There is a weight limit set for the board… its in kgs… I’ll let you guys wait to find out what the amt is! The limit might have to be increased for the “broad-bodied” american market, forcing production to re-calculate the PVC strength limits!

Be patient wiirdos:P

I’m very happy that this is coming out, but gee….they have to stop pushing the dates back. I know its slated for May…but really…i waited all year for this ever since they were making the game! I can’t wait to try it and actually get into it. What a great way to make getting fit much more fun. Kinda like recess or gym class in school. (miss that since i graduated from school!!!) Plus, with schools cutting back on recess/gym activities, we need all the help we can get for our kids’ sakes! They are the future…and of course…we need it for ourselves for our kids sakes too! We need to keep up with the younger folks! LOL

Your opinion matters not to me!

People could care less what you think. A lot of people are very excited about this product, myself included. You could have spent more time explaining WHY you thought it such a disappointment instead of criticizing the obvious (that it’s a gimic, OK), and presenting your OPINION as a matter of FACT.

Its like you read my thoughts! You seem to grasp a lot approximately this, such as you wrote the e book in it or something. I believe that you can do with a few p.c. to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, that is great blog. An excellent read. I will definitely be back.
